AN EAGLE RISES IN NEW YORK
ΑΕΚ That Will Make You Yawn

This past Wednesday we took on Lamia in an away fixture in the last group stage match, looking to secure our spot in the round of 16. Lamia is no slouch, they have been playing fairly well this season and havn’t conceded a goal in 9 league matches.
One of our old boys plays for Lamia currently, Stavros Petavrakis. I always rated Petavraki he was a kid with great promise and a little bit of pace about him. Unfortunately things didn’t work out and he is currently fighting to once again to play Super Liga Football next year.
The match once again started very slow and dead. No movement no pace in our build up play everything look long to develop and we went backwards way too much. No chances were created in the first 25 minutes. Finally the first chance of the game came from a long range effort by Galanopoulo in the 27th minute which Cennamo gathered cleanly. The only other chance came in the 40th minute after a crisply taken freekick by Lazaro didn’t sail too much over Cennamo’s gaol. Another poor first half from AEK.
We would see more of the same in the second half. Lamia had a chance to open up to scoring in the 56th minute but the effort sailed wide of Anesti’s goal. Papito and Pekart came on as subs to look to spark something for us, that wasn’t the case however. No other big chances were created for the rest of the game, very poor from the boys. The match would end 0-0 a very boring game.
Nonetheless, we go through as group winner with 5 points. Lamia also goes through with their well deserved point. We expect more from the boys, I understand that we played young players such as Tzanetopoulos, Tselios, and Galanopoulos but that shouldn’t be an excuse. We need to play with a quick tempo and start creating more chances. Two half chances against Lamia is unacceptable.
Our next match we take on PAS Giannina at the OAKA on Monday. They are another in form team, playing pretty well lately. We have to be careful, we simply have to play with a tempo and create chances the goals will come there is no doubt about it. Let’s see on Monday what the boys have to offer. Struggling or not we are always AEKARA and have to support the team with everything we have!
