katidhsThis Saturday we took on Veria at the Olympiaco Stadio, a must win coming after three straight losses. We started out great and even took the lead after just 3 minutes after a low strong shot from Founta.
Nothing really major happened in the first half after we took the lead. The second half the pace picked up and both teams were looking dangerous. In the 74th minute Olaitan tied it up and looks as if we were heading for an upsetting home tie.

However just 10 minutes after the game was tied up, in the 84th minute Katidi made a sneaky run in the Veria penalty box and poked the ball in the back of the net with a smart finish after a Cordero shot. In his celebration Katidi took of his shirt and emotionally celebrated and ran over the the corner flag where many of his teammates greeted him to celebrate this very important goal.
Katidi also rose his hand in a way that resembled a Nazi salute, which he later denied and said he was waving to an injured teammate in the stands. The league of course punished the 20 year old and banned him for life from the National team.

The kid is young, he was just celebrating a very important goal that gave us a much needed 2-1 victory but of course the Hellenic Football Federation gave Katidi a lifetime ban which is completely unfair.
Katidi was also the U19 captain and was a key player for our youngsters national team. This is unfair! Give the kid one more chance he got caught up in the moment. If an Olympiaco player did this for example Mitroglou the league wouldn’t say a word, because their Olympiaco. The league found a perfect situation to punish AEK which is everyone’s dream.

Our next game is an away game against Levadiako on the 31st of March. After this important victory we currently find ourselves in 11th place on 29 points but only three points away from 7th. Levadiako is in 9th place at the moment and with a win in Levadia we can leapfrog them in the standings.
We can’t afford any slip ups in this point of the season, if we want any chance at having a top 8 finish. We need to believe and just give it everything we have night in and night out and hope the teams ahead of us drop points.
