Fly high my dearest Mike…

I’m still numb. I’m not sure that I can articulate words for what happened but I will do my best

A family woke up without their son. A young man who was simply out in his town a day before one of our biggest European matches in some years. As well as the others, that were out having a pregame drink possibly to ease the nerves of this big game that was rightfully never played. All of a sudden the town was under attack. Families out with their kids, friends gathering to speak about the team they love so much, or even a romantic pregame dinner. Our dearest Mike didn’t make it. I won’t get into details. I’m sure we all know them very well at this point.

How could this happen? How could this happen again? This has become something so much more than football. It doesn’t matter what color shirt you elect to wear, at the end of the day we are all human beings. I traveled across the world to see my team, I do every summer, it’s my love, my endless passion. As I’m sure many others. People have re-adjusted their vacations to be in Athens to see their team in Europe for the first time in our new stadium.

Seeing things like this really makes me wonder. How would you feel safe taking your kids to the stadium? These 90 minutes should be filled with voice, passion and even nerves. Never fear. Ever. Something has to change. We are all demanding change but can barely process words to explain our deep sadness. Fly high my dearest Mike.
